Accidental Death Insurance for Medical Procedures (ADIM) offers accidental death coverage for your elective surgery from admission to discharge
What are elective surgeries?
Medical procedures that can be booked in advance. They aren’t emergent, life threatening, critical or sudden - like organ transplants, emergency bypass due to a heart attack or trauma surgery due to a car accident. For more details, check out our list of

Where is Samos licensed to operate?
We currently operate in Ontario, Canada and are expanding the list of provinces and states we’re available in
Why do I need ADIM if I have health, group, life or AD&D insurance
Health/group insurance only covers medical expenses, AD&D typically excludes medical surgery related death, life covers most death outcomes but requires monthly premium payments while ADIM provides surgical accidental death coverage whether you do or don’t have existing policies. Read more
How much does it cost?
Premiums depend on your age, procedure & desired benefit - most of our premiums are under $100
What coverage do you offer?
ADIM insurance plans have coverage for $30k, $75k or $100k benefits

We cover hundreds of elective procedures which account for half of all procedures conducted annually. You can check out a more complete list

Non-elective surgeries which couldn’t be booked in advance or are emergent/life threatening

Are there any medical requirements?
There is no medical exam or coverage exclusions for existing medical conditions
How soon before surgery do I need to sign up?
You have to have a policy complete at least 48 hours before your surgery, we would recommend starting the quote process at least 72 hours before.
Who can apply for coverage?
Currently - individuals in Ontario, Canada aged 20-69 undergoing elective surgery. We’re expanding the list of provinces & states we operate in
How can I access my policy?
A copy of your policy will be emailed to you and will be available via Docusign for future reference
How long will a policy cover me?
From admission to discharge at the medical facility for your elective surgery
Do you cover disability / injury due to surgery?
No. Benefits are only paid out upon death of the insured if it occured between admission and discharge for the insured procedure.
Is there a waiting period?
There is no waiting period for the policy to activate. Once premium payment is received and the policy is signed, coverage is considered active for the surgical stay period
What if I don’t know my exact procedure name or date?
We can help you identify your exact procedure name and you can update your admission details once you have more information after you’ve purchased a policy
Does Samos cover me internationally?
Samos only covers you in the province/state in which you reside and are getting your procedure done
I’m visiting from outside the country, can I purchase a policy?
We currently only offer

How do I update or cancel my policy?
to make any changes to or cancel your existing policy
Can I extend my policy?
No - coverage is only in effect between admission and discharge for the specific elective surgery listed on the policy. If you are going to have subsequent procedures, those would be new policies. If your procedure is being rescheduled please see our rescheduling FAQ question above
Is there a deductible?
No. ADIM-on demand doesn’t have a deductible you need to meet before your benefit is paid
How do I file a claim?
Email firstname.lastname@example.org with the Insured’s details (name, surgery name / date, policy number if available) and we’ll provide you with a list of if you don’t already have access to the policy outlining those details
How much time do I have to file a claim?
Beneficiaries / appointed individuals will need to provide various medical records within 30 days after the accidental death for review, processing, and benefits payout. More details are outlined
How long does it take for a claim to be paid?
Claims will be paid out as soon as they are approved, ideally within 7 business days
